Hints on Exchange Server Version 2000 and 2003
General notes
Pop2Exchange will run either as a Service or as a program. When running as a program it can be minimized to a tray icon. If you want to run it as a 
program please create a link in your startup folder.
All passwords will be encrypted before being saved.
The installation should be made with Administrator-rights. Please do not forget to configure the relay settings of the exchange server. ->see “Hints on Exchange Server Version 2000 and 2003”
The Setup routine of Pop2Exchange will also install a service call “Pop2Exchange Service”.
You can start this service manually. You might also want to change the service start to automatic. (found at: Control Panel/Services)
Profilename
This is a text to describe the account
Pop3 server
name of the email server i.e. mail.domain.de
user name
name of the account
password
destination email address. Pop2Exchange will use the mail destination address of the message if you leave this field blank. This is useful when you have all messages collected on one account. You can filter doimains by entering the doimain(s) within square brackets
i.e. [@mydomain.com anotherdomain.com]
This will filter out all email addresses in the to an cc lines of the header that do not match with the forward to line.
on Mailserver
name or ip address of the destination mail server
forward attachments
usually enabled. If you want forwarding without any attached files uncheck this
delete after forward
usually enabled. If you want the messages forwarded to several accounts then do not delete it and get them with the next account again.
Timeout
60-180s should work fine.
log to file
The mail addresses of email senders will be log to pop2exchg.log if this option is enabled. Any error messages will be logged with timestamp anyway.
The preferences button will open the additional setting.
check mail every
the interval for check for new mail
limit time
this enables you to skip mail checking during night hours.
use dialup
you can select any pre configured dialup connection. Pop2exchange will dial and hang up automatically.
There is a batch file check_virus.bat which will be called between fetching and sending the messages. All attachments will be kept in the Attachments directory until the messages are delivered. You need to modify this batch file to meet you virus checker. The virus checker should isolate or delete any attachment containing a virus. Pop2Exchange will notice the missing file and will then notify the recipient.
Hints on Exchange Server version 2000 and 2003
By default Exchange server has a setting to deny relaying. Too many spammers were finding open Exchange servers to forward their email through to hide their identity, so Microsoft changed the default to not allow email to be transferred through the Exchange server unless the sender is authenticated.
To change this follow these steps:
1.Open the MS Exchange System Manager
2.In the left hand panel, expand "Servers", then expand the name of your server, then expand "Protocols", then expand "SMTP"
3.Under the SMTP protocol will be an item labeled "Default Virtual SMTP Server". Right-click on this and choose "Properties"
4.At the Properties dialog, switch tabs to the "Access" tab, and select the button labeled "Relay"
5.On the "Relay Restrictions" dialog, press the "Add" button.
6.Enter the IP address of the machine that you have installed Pop2Exchange on. This will grant Pop2Exchange the right to send email to the Exchange Server.
Pop2Exchange should now be able to send your email to your Exchange Server.
Note: This does not open your Exchange Server up for spammers. Since the IP address you entered is your own internal address it does not exist on the Internet.
